The ability to compete is something that must be developed in practice everyday. Alan Stein believes that players should be taken out of their comfort zone to make them tougher physically and mentally. A standardized warm-up sets the tone for the difficulty of the workout. Demonstrated are 11 tennis ball drills, with variations, for agility, quickness and anticipation training. Dynamic flexibility becomes a conditioned response for players. Coach Stein shares nine drills to prepare players for full speed practice, as opposed to the sitting stretch philosophy. To work on help defense, Stein uses cones and colors to put players through an intense defensive drill. It is key to visualize the play when doing drills, not just reacting to commands. Other drills are the Touch Glass Outlet, get backs, Spin-Retreat-Break and the 4 man/3 points drill. Heavy balls are used in the conditioning phase of this program. Stein also shares seven basketball-specific conditioning drills. This presentation concludes with finishing drills that demand concentration and endurance.

What Buyers Said

“I am impressed by so many facets of Coach Stein's DVD's that it's difficult to say what impresses me most. First and foremost, I appreciate the simplicity of the drills. Many times an inordinate amount of space and/or equipment are required to conduct some of the workouts others present. His workout was very practical, using the gym floor and a limited amount of equipment.

Perhaps the best part was the relevance of the workout. It was easy to see how the drills would help. Even the players can see why and how the drills are helping them improve. This relevance helps motivate them to compete in the drills, which is invaluable to their development.

Just like any good plan, nothing is more valuable than its ability to be effective. Simply put, this program gets results. Over the years I had been doing some things that I wasn't always convinced were improving our basketball abilities, yet I couldn't find anything better. No more. Every phase of Alan's program has made us better.

We have incorporated every phase of Alan's program into ours. When I first brought the package to my team, they were skeptical simply because they had never seen anything like it. The level of soreness was greater than any of them had ever dealt with, not only because of the toughness but also because they were using muscles in a much different manner than they were accustomed. Then, something unusual happened.

The players were actually showing excitement about the workouts. While they were demanding, they also saw benefits. They were enthusiastic about the program and the competition involved with it simply because they could see it was working. I had always heard that if players liked the drills to throw them out. Not the case here. This was perhaps the greatest benefit of them all.

It is safe to say that I have each of Alan's DVDs and will continue to add each to my extensive video library. And if what I have mentioned is not enough, Alan offered his e-mail address for communications. In many cases, that's just good PR. Alan has replied to every e-mail in a prompt, professional and personal manner.”
