I’ve been around the game long enough that I can tell within 5 seconds of a player taking the court as to whether or not they ‘get it’.
That doesn’t mean I can tell exactly how talented they are of if they can really play, it simply means I can tell if they ‘get it.’
What do I mean by ‘get it’?
Do they understand how to properly prepare and do they respect that success is a process.
That’s pretty deep, right?
If the first shot a player takes is close to the basket and resembles some type of form shooting… then that player ‘gets it.’
If the first shot they jack up is a fade away 3-pointer or a running hook shot from the free throw line… then that player doesn’t have a clue.
The irony is, I have seen mediocre players who ‘get it’ and extremely talented players who are clueless.
Which are you?
Respect the process. Respect the game.
